They say moving is never easy…. and no one stresses moving between Thanksgiving and Christmas is hell. I really don’t suggest doing it, if at all possible.
When I was interviewing movers I told them I wanted to move on the 4th or 5th….maybe the 6th at the latest. I went with Mayflower and the scheduled me on the 6th. The last possible date for me to move. (remeber Jason has to go back to work some time!!) They also then tell us we are th last ones on the truck, so we will be the 1st one’s off. SCORE!!! We will get our stuff delivered monday!!! This is perfect, gives Jason and I time to learn the area and unpack, and go to the stores we need things at, together. Jason had been working 70 hour weeks (min) the last month and a half, its nice to have him around again!)
So the 6th rolls around and we get up REALLY EARLY because the movers are to be there at 8 to load the truck…when they were done we are going to roam the mall and go to eat spend the night on our floor….and hit the road bright and early in the morning. at 8:30 I get a call from Mayflower saying that the truck we were to be on doesn’t have room for our stuff and could we move tomrrow? NO WE WANTED TO MOVE YEASTERDAY OR THE DAY BEFORE, TOMORROW IS TOTALLY OUT OF THE QUESTION. fine they had to find us a van and movers…..
They found us AWESOME movers…..Jeff and Ken from Armstrong United in Orlando ROCK DA CASA!!!! our old apt complex would require a shuttle van (Mayflower was he only company that said they didn’t need a shuttle, remeber the company i had origially gone with and they are owned by United so they sent a United van) to move out stuff in and out bc of the way it is set up….nearly impossible to get an 18 wheeler back there. They got the truck back and saved us $600!!! It’s just to the 2 of them and they loaded our stuff in 4 hours!! oh and we are now the 1st on the truck and the last off….they have a millitary move and a FBI move to go in the truck with us. Our stuff should be delivered Sat the 16th at the EARLIST!! CRAP! That gives us no time in the new place before jason starts his new job. Only one mishap. Our dresser legs broke off (yes we told them not to turn onto it’s side bc the legs are weak)
So Thursday morning we hit the road. From Boca Raton,FL to Mobile, AL. Nothing eventful to report from that day except we learn that Jason’s Eclipse gets a tad better gas milaeage than my Equinox (but does that matter when you are moving to a place were gas is just a tad over 2.00?) oh yeah by the time we reach Tallahassee and stop for gas…it’s 20 degress…it was 80 when we left S FL and we are dressed in shorts!!! BURR!!!!!
Friday (my birthday!!!!) is spend driving from Mobile AL, to League City, TX (were Jason’s mom and step dad live) I spend the majority of the morning answering phone calls from family and friends withing me a happy birthday (Thank you!!). DRIVING IN LA SUCKS…..please fix the roads…I think we changed elevations evey 10 feet because of the bumpy road. this is were I got a crack in my windshield bc of the horrible roads. Well we arrivied at Jason’s mom’s house that afternoon around 4..and had an awesome steak dinner!
Sat we decorate the house for christmas and we braved the mall for warmer clothes…got hats, gloves, and long underware (bc we had only packed the one pair of jeans we each own and one sweatshirt!)
Sunday we go tailgating at the Houston Texans, TN Tiatans game (remeber the Tiatians used to be the Houston Oilers)…I have some pictures and I will post them with i find all the cables. It was fun but cold!!! Glad we went out and got warmer clothes!
Monday we drove up here to our new apt to sign the lease, kinda expolored and did some minor shopping you know flour sugar butter!
Tusday we got up and debated to go get out TX DL….we did, we are official Texans again!!!! same # we’ve had since we were 16 too! SCORE! and we started and finished our Christmas shopping that day!!! By the end of the day we decide we need to to be up at the new apt to get stuff done, so we ask to borrow Mom and Dennis (Jason’s mom and step dad’s) air matress and we are going to go up the next morning. Oh yeah Jason also has to go into his new job for a physical and eye/hearing test on Wednesday. that is also on this end of town. Mom and Dennis live in the southern part of town near Galveston and we live in the North part…about an hour away.
Wednesday we both leave in separate cars and in houston rush hour traffic (doesn’t look like any one is in a rush!!) Jason goes to the airport and i head to our new apt…with no furniture! Jason calls me from his dr. apt. saying the movers are coming and they will call me with more details! Wait they weren’t coming until Sat!!! good thing we left that morning or the movers wuld have gotten to the apt before me!!! So you read my praises fro Jeff and Ken…they ROCK STILL. They got to our place and unloaded another families stuff (the FBI agent) in the parking lot to get to our stuff so we woudl have our stuff before ,well today!!! HOW FRIGGIN AWESOME IS THAT!?!?!? oh and the dresser they broke..they fixed it and made it stronger!!!!! 4 hours latter our stuff is unloaded with one dropped box…of my grandmothers 1920’s serving plates…3 broke. i cried like a colicy baby. and when i cry people feel bad. the movers already felt bad….so i felt bad for making them feel bad. things happen when you move, it was an accident and they can be replaced….it just means i get to go to antique stores! The box sliped it wasn’t anything that could be avoided. So far we are missing a box, we think…but then again we can’t get to one of the in the office yet…hopefully that is were things are that we are looking for. (my external hard drive, with all my itunes and the last 3 months of pictures i hadn’t had time up back up, and jasons $400 remote)
It turned out to be a good move..rough start…smooth ending…
We have one more room to un pack (the office) and we dont have desks for the office yet so our computers are on the flour!
